Update from CORE about our operations during Covid-19

CORE is still operational and continues to administer the various programs under our care during this time. We had been planning and preparing for a course in West Africa that was going to happen in May 2020, but this has now been postponed and provisionally set to November 2020.

South Africa is on a 21 day lockdown right now. People are only allowed to leave their houses if they provide essential services or need to get food and medical care. The 6 CORE sponsored students at George Whitefield College (GWC) have remained in Cape Town, South Africa during this time. GWC is currently on a break. When the term resumes at the beginning of April, lectures will be delivered digitally until the social distancing precautionary measures are over. The staff and faculty are working from home, and the College remains operational. Students are implementing “social distancing” within their residences- which is never easy in this context.

South Sudan has been largely unaffected and has had no cases of Covid-19 to date. Bishop Gwynne College has nonetheless sent the students home with the view of them returning at the end of April. The government has called a curfew in the country from 8pm – 6am daily and social distancing has been implemented throughout the nation. Churches have been shut until further notice.

CORE will update the website if there is any relevant news in regards to the CORE sponsored students in South Africa, the CORE sponsored staff in South Sudan and CORE operations in general.
